Emerald is May’s birthstone and is a deep grass green color.
Emerald shares the same gem properties as aquamarine (A bright blue color) but its distinctive green color has made it coveted since the time of the ancient Egyptians. To the Egyptians emerald symbolized fertility and long life.
They have been discovered throughout the world such as Russia, South Africa, Pakistan and North Carolina. Emeralds also are found in rich deposits in Columbia where a large number of emeralds still come from today.
